Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the rally, Imphal College debate secretary A Malemnganba said that academic environment in Government colleges has been largely affected ever since teachers began their cease work stir on February 18 this year.
He said that they are worried that their syllabus would not be completed before their scheduled examination commencing May 12 if the teachers continue their stir.
As such, the students were compelled to take out the rally as the Government had failed to bring a solution to the ongoing teachers' stir within the given deadline.
After a brief scuffle, five student representatives were later allowed to meet the Education Minister.
The students returned to their respective collages after the Minister assured them that normal classes would resume from tomorrow.
