MPCC kickstarts Ambedkar's birth anniv celebration

Year-long 125th birth anniversary obser-vance of Dr BR Ambedkar was set into motion today in a function organised by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at Congress Bhawan, BT Road.
Chief Minister O Ibobi and Dy CM Gaikhangam, who is also MPCC president attended the programme as the chief guest and president respectively.
Congress Ministers, MPs, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs, MPCC office bearers, party leaders and party workers also attended the function.
Winners of quiz, painting and essay writing competitions held at different schools to commemorate the birth anniversary of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru last year were also presented prizes.
Speaking at the function, CM O Ibobi highlighted the contributions of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the architect of Indian Constitution, for his campaign against social discrimination in India.

He also said that the long rule of the Congress party in India is possible due to the party's secular outlook and principles.
MPCC president Gai-khangam said that there is no division on the line of class or creed in Manipur.
Although there was once class distinction in the society due to the influences of outside elements, such division has no place in the modern society.
The beauty of the diverse Manipur society as well as the bond between the different ethnic communities of the State deserve international limelight, he added.
As part of the yearlong birth anniversary observance, different programmes highlighting the ideals and principles of the nation would be held in every district.
