Ex-CM Dorendra's son Suraj to contest polls

Imphal, September 21 2021:
Rajkumar Suraj, son of ex-Chief Minister (L) Rajkumar Dorendra, will be contesting the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election in 2022, from Yaiskul AC as a candidate of Lok Janashakti Party (UP) .
This was announced during a simple function held at his (Suraj) Moirangkhom Sougaijam Leikai residence on Tuesday, along with his appointment as the general secretary of LJP Manipur State.
An appointment letter of the same was handed over to him by UP national secretary Ruchida Sharma as well.
Speaking on the occasion, RK Suraj confided that he had initially planned to appear for the Civil Services Examination.
However, he ultimately decided tp follow the footsteps of his father and as such, entered politics to better serve the people.
He also said that he had worked with numerous organisations for the betterment of the people.
Explaining his decision to join UP, Suraj said that he was moved by the works and efforts of former party leader Ram Vilas Paswan for the uplift of the poor and vulnerable sections of the society.
He noticed the compatibility of the party with the situation of the state and as such, decided to contest the upcoming Assembly elections as LJP candidate.
In her speech, LJP national secretary Ruchida Sharma welcomed RK Suraj into the party, adding that his joining will help in strengthening LJP further.
She then said that although UP is yet to make any resolute decision with regard to the upcoming polls, the party plans fo field at least 15-20 candidates.
A final decision will be taken after consultation with the national leaders, she added.
