Imphal, April 08 2024:
After withholding the rice under National Food Security Act (NFSA) for four months to the beneficiaries of Kshetrigao AC due to non-possession of ration cards, Fair Price Shop (FPS) agents on Saturday distributed the cards on Sunday, allowing the District Supply Officer, Imphal East of CAF&PD to begin distributing the rice to the beneficiaries on Monday.
On Monday, the rice was distributed to beneficiaries of Kongba Nongthombam Leikai, Kongba Laishram Leikai and Thambalkhong falling under FPS no 93, at the ground of KYO.
Distributing the rice quota for three months November-January) out of the four months (November-February), civil supply inspector Karnajit Chanambam informed that the department is making all out efforts to distribute the remaining quota for February as soon as possible.
NFSA beneficiary and Kongba Nongthombam Leikai Women Association secretary Thiyam Surjabala said that while the distribution initially began on April 5, it was halted after the beneficiaries were found not possessing the original NFSA cards.
When the local MLA was enquired about the matter, he responded that the cards had been collected by the DSO.
The department, however, responded that the cards were at the hands of the MLA.
Amid the confusion, the MLA distributed the cards through the FPS agents, after which the distribution resumed.
She then urged the authority concerned to look into the difficulties faced by people in availing labour cards, scholarships and other government schemes.
