Fire at Yurembam Powerhouse

Imphal, January 19 2014 : A major fire broke out at Yurembam Powerhouse at around 4 pm today following which there was blackout in Imphal area for more than four hours.

The fire started from one 11 KV panel and later spread to other transformers causing the control panel inside the control-room to burst.

A team of Manipur Fire Service rushed to the spot as soon as the news of the fire was received.

The whole setup of Yurembam Powerhouse was shut down to prevent from further disaster.

A team of engineers closely inspected the powerhouse to restore power supply, but nothing could be done.

Even the Raj Bhavan and CM Bungalow had to rely on generators.

After about four hours, the engineers restored power supply in Imphal area partially by diverting power from Iroishemba sub-station.

The sub-station at Kongba was also linked up by Ningthoukhong sub-station to restore power supply in some areas of Imphal East.
