With the conviction of all the accused in the infamous U Morok seller gang-rape case in a such a short period of time, Gonmei Phuamling (Gonmei Clannish Committee) has congratulated the civil societies in Manipur for the historic winning of the case.
In a statement, DA Gonmei, Secretary of Gonmei Phuamling said that it has been the first time in the history of Manipur that such a Public Interest Litigation saw the light of the day with determination on the part of all concerned and a true pursuit till the end.
On behalf of the Committee and family members of the rape victim including her father namely, Adai Gonmei; mother K Giangdunlu Gonmei; husband Ngamsuklung Kamei; DA Gonmei, expressed gratitude to civil organisations AMKIL; WACAD; KAMA; KANGLAMEI, AMTUK, RLP and others, individuals for the solidarity and pains undertaken jointly.
While describing the victim as the defender of women right, DA Gonmei also specially thanked main pleader Panti Gonmei and her associate Aram Pamei, P Martha Kamei and others for their tireless efforts, the government prosecutors and other advocates.
The committee is also obliged to all those who have contributed strength to the case for the sake of peace with the rule of law and appeals to all to extend solidarity and support in the fight against any injustice against women in future as well.
