CCpur, December 01 2023:
Around 30 displaced BSc Nursing students of the College of Nursing run by the Medical Directorate and the College of Nursing, RIMS staged protest against the inability of authority concerned to make alternative arrangement for them to continue studying.
The students who were displaced during initial phase of the ethnic violence in the state are demanding transfer to any government nursing institutions other than those in Imphal so that they could resume their studies.
They have been urging government authorities to make alternative arrangement for them but no positive response has been forthcoming till date.
The students carried out the protest in front of DC Churachandpur office from 10am holding placards and banners some of which read 'Students demand educational rights', 'Don't politicise education', 'If they can why can t we pursue our dreams', etc.
The protest was backed by Joint Students' Body (JSB), Churachandpur in the interest and welfare of the students.
The students have been displaced from their institutions since May 4 after eruption of widespread violence in the state and since then they have not been able to continue their education and no arrangement has been made for them despite repeated requests to authorities.
Later, the nursing students along with JSB leaders submitted a memorandum addressed to the state health and family authority through DC Churachandpur Dharun Kumar and made an urgent request for transfer to any college as the mounting tensions is impossible for them to continue their studies in Imphal.
The memorandum signed by JSB convener Nengzalian and two BSc nursing students also said that their academic and professional future are in jeopardy and urged authorities concerned to facilitate their transfer to another suitable government nursing college located in a more secure environment.
