Imphal, December 01 2023:
Urging all to contribute in achieving the global target to end HIV as a public health threat by 2030, Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+) president L Deepak has expressed hope that Manipur could also achieve the target within the stipulated time.
As in other parts of the world, the World AIDS Day was observed jointly by MNP+, SASO, Care Foundation, KRIPA Society, CoNE and USER Manipur at Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) hall, Yaiskul Police lane, here on Friday.
Speaking at the observance held under the theme "Let Communities Lead", MNP+ president L Deepak highlighted that there is significant advancement made in medical science and medication pertaining to HIV due to the intervention of the community.
As the world develops in all spheres, a number of changes have occurred in the field of medical sciences.
Earlier a person living with HIV had to take multiple medicines in a single day.
But now it has been reduced to a single medicine per day.
In advanced countries, one can take a single shot on a monthly basis, he elaborated.
Pointing out that the theme for the World AIDS Day for the year 2023 is appropriate as involvement of community people in activities and programmes made exclusively for them will help reap fruit of the programme, Deepak said that if the communities get involved sincerely and lead the activities/programmes, the global target to end HIV as a public health threat by 2030 could be realised.
Presided over by MNP+ general secretary Udita Salam, the observance function was also attended by MACS project director Rosita Haobam as chief guest while MACS joint director Dr Subhir Ningthouja, deputy directors Dr Bima Haobijam, Dr Gaitri Thangjam and Dr Dipabali Nameirakpam were present as guests of honour.
Meanwhile, World AIDS Day was observed under the aegis of Population Education Cell of Council of Education Research and Training at the multipurpose hall of SCERT, Lamphelpat.
The function was attended by SCERT director Dr A Chinglenkhomba Meetei, Jim Konthoujam, Kh Ashokumar and A Rajeshwar as presidium members.
