15.011 kg heroin seized, four arrested

Kangpokpi district police arrested four people including a woman and seized 15.011 kg of heroin worth more than Rs 100 crore in the international market on May 1 .
The arrested people have been identified as Len Devid Sauntak (20) son of Khu-plang Sauntak of Joljam village and Lunminsang Haokip (24) son of Seikholun Haokip of Khaopijang Village both in Churachandpur district, Mangkholun Haokip (27) son of Tongjapao Haokip of Toitung village, Chandel and Rk Poukhurou (50) daughter of late Rt Khu of Khamsong Karong village, Senapati district.
Speaking to the media at his conference hall on Tuesday, Kangpokpi SP Th Vikramjit informed that a team of Kangpokpi police led by inspector Kh Sunilkumar was on tegular frisking and checking duty in front of Kangpokpi police station gate on May 1 .
During the frisking, a Mahindra SUV 500 (MN 03P 8104) was halted for checking around 9.15pm and found three nylons bags containing 351 soap cases of heroin.
After interrogating the driver Len Devid, a Mahindra Scorpio without registration number driven by Lunminsang Haokip and Mangkholun Haokip coming with him was also stopped.
Upon questioning the place of delivery, the three mentioned Rk Poukhurou, who was subsequently arrested from near TNK village, Senapati.
A case has been registered against the four, who were produced before Kangpokpi judicial magistrate first class and then remanded to judicial custody for eight days, he informed.
SP Vikramjit also informed that poppy cultivation in areas under Kangpokpi district has decreased.
Further stating that around 1400 acres of poppy cultivation were destroyed by the police along with per sonnel of others departments in the district, he said that surveys were conducted by the district police and NAB in different areas so as to prevent poppy cultivation.
The survey teams will visit all those areas where poppy cultivation was done in the past so as to prevent fresh cultivation, he added.
