State ranks third in food safety index

Manipur ranked third in the food safety index among small states, according to a report published by union ministry of health and family welfare on Monday.
As per the report, the parameters for ranking the food safety are human resources and institutional data, compliance, food testing infrastructure and surveillance, training and capacity building and consumer empowerment.
While Goa ranked first among small states with 63 points in total and Meghalaya came in second spot with a grand total of 53 points while Manipur scored a total of 46 points including 10 points in human resources and institutional data, 15 in compliance, 7 in food testing infrastructure and surveillance, 4 in training and capacity building and 10 points in consumer empowerment.
Manipur received the least point in training and capacity building and the state is below Meghalaya, Sikkim and Tripura in food testing infrastructure and surveillance.
Among the small states, Sikkim got 40 points, Arunachal Pradesh scored 37 points, Nagaland got 36 points, Tripura got 35 points and Mizoram secured 25 points.
According to FSSAI, the SFSI Index is classified into three categories - large states, small states and union territories to ensure comparability among similar entities.
Among the larger states, Gujarat topped the ranking, followed by Kerala and Tamil Nadu and among the UTs, Jammu & Kashmir, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Delhi secured the top three positions respectively.
