Durbar Member Kokadan Tomba remembered

Imphal, January 14 2013:
Kabui Cultural Research Center (KCRC) observed the 51st death anniversary of prominent tribal leader D Lanling Kabui, popularly known as Kokadan Tomba on Sunday at Churachandpur district's Kokadan Dolan Kabui village.
Kokadan Tomba was also the Khulakpa of Kokadan village and Durbar Member of Manipur during the reign of Maharaj Surchand.
In recognition of his works, the king decorated him with Khamen Chatpa.
Informing this in a statement, Secretary of KCRC D Lungpuijei Kabui said that Kokadan Tomba was one of the pioneering leaders of Kabui community who worked to uplift the social status of tribal through education.
He used to impose penalities against those who did not send their children to school.
He was also an associate of Hijam Irabot and worked for unity between the hill and the valley people.
He also launched various Kirtans for Kabui community including Balu in 1930; Tarangkai (building low cost houses phase) in 1940; Lakpui Kai (building low cost houses phase II) in 1953; Hoi Kai (building low cost houses phase III), etc.
Chairman of KCRC and Khulakpa of Kokadan Dalon Kabui Village D Namsachung Kabui, who presided over the anniversary function, observed that since time immemorial Kabui community took active part in the administration of Manipur and Moirang Kangleirol is proof to it.
So, we have to find a common path of co-existence among the different communities in Manipur.
