2nd MK Binodini Memorial Lecture held at Chandrakirti Auditorium

The 2nd M.K.Binodini Devi Memorial Lecture was held at Maharaj Chandrakirti Auditorium, Palace Compound here today.
The event was organised by Maharaj Kumari Binodini Devi Foundation in association with the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur to mark the 92nd birth anniversary of MK Binodini Devi.
Chief Minister O.Ibobi Singh, who was the chief guest of the function, also released a book entitled "Isei Binodinigi" which is a collection of MK Binodini's 57 song lyrics and translation of 28 Rabindra Sangeet from the original Bangla.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibobi observed that late Maharaj Kumari Binodini Devi became an icon of Manipuri arts and culture in her time and afterwards.
Her works of arts and culture during and after her life has been recognised all over and outside the State.
The effort of the Foundation to preserve, protect and promote the legacy of Manipur is a fitting tribute to this icon of Manipuri Arts and culture.
The memorial lecture on the topic of 'Dismantling the Master's House: New Genres in Women's Writing' was delivered by Ms.Urvashi Butalia, who is the co-founder of Kali for Women, India's first feminist publishing house and Director of Zubaan, an imprint of Kali.
Earlier, the Chief Minister led all those present on the occasion in offering floral tributes to the portrait of MK Binodini Devi.
As part of the event, artistes of Roop Raga presented songs penned by MK Binodini and renowned actors of Manipur Yengkhom Roma and Narendra Ningomba performed Karna Kunti Sangbad by Rabindranath Tagore and translated by MK Binodini Devi in Manipuri.
The performance was conceptualised and designed by Padmashri Ratan Thiyam.
