Women rally against 'eviction drive'

Khwairamband Keithel Phambi Imasing along with NHF, Manipur and Road Side Vendors Welfare Association today staged a mass rally against the destruction of Khwairamband temporary market shed by the Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) .
The mass rally kick started from the temporary market shed and the rallyists went to meet the Chief Minister, but teams police led by DSP of police commandos Krishna Tombi, City police OC Sudhir, Bazar unit commando OC Pao stopped the protesters at the Kangla Gate.
It may be mentioned that the IMC started destroying the extensions put up by the vendors of the temporary market shed last night after the March 11 Khwairamband bomb blast indicating that such extensions could harbor more bombs in future.

After confronting the police, selected members from the protesters went to meet the chairman of IMC to discuss the matter.
The rally also condemned the March 11 Khwairamband bomb blast demanding prompt action and to book the culprits and punish them.
The protesters demanded that Ima Keithel should be made free from bomb blast and other incidents later in future and not to take away their livelihood by destroying the temporary market shed.
A protester said that the State Government has failed on various issues like inability to implement ILP and added that the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister should resign on moral ground.
Meanwhile after the State wide general strike, non- locals were asked not to open shops and not to venture out by the JCILPS.
To avert any unbecoming incident against the non- locals, security was beef up in and around Imphal mainly at Paona Keithel, Thangal Keithel and Khwairamband Keithel.
Police pickets comprising of women police personnel were opened at various points of the city.
