Imphal, May 16 2020:
In view of the return of a large number of Manipuri people stranded in different parts of India on account of the COVID-19 lockdown and the sudden spike in the number of positive cases, CIRCA has urged the State Government to raise the number of COVID-19 test and open more quarantine centres.
Speaking to media persons at the Konung Mamang office of HERICOUN today, CIRCA secretary Moirangthem Angamba noted that the COVID-19 situation is growing more and more alarming in the State.
The new COVID-19 positive cases detected in the State are people who returned to the State from other parts of India recently.
At the same time, hordes of Manipuri people who were stranded outside the State have been returning continuously to the State.

Given this situation, one cannot afford to be complacent with the several measures taken up by the State Government to tackle the contagion, Angamba said.
He said there is a vast gap between the number of people returning to the State and the COVID-19 testing capacity of JNIMS and RIMS.
The State may also face a very difficult situation after a few days due to lack of quarantine facilities.
There are reports that around 50,000 people have registered in www.tengbang.in seeking return to the State.
As such, there is an urgent need to raise the rate of COVID-19 test by installing more testing kits and open more quarantine centres, Angamba said.
He said that it would be quite helpful to categorise the returnees according to the zones from where they returned and quarantine them separately.
He also proposed compulsory testing of all returnees.
CIRCA president Thokchom Somorendro warned that the tiny indigenous population of Manipur may be wiped out if the Government fails to take up necessary measures and prevent community transmission of COVID-19 .
