Imphal, January 30 2015 :
The Government of Manipur is planning to place two vehicles installed with x-ray scanner at two points along Imphal-Moreh road to identify vehicles carrying illegal items along the strategic road, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also the Home Minister, has announced.
Interacting with media persons on Friday morning, Gaikhangam said that a report has been sent to Union Ministry of Home Affairs for procuring the highly expensive vehicles fitted with x-ray scanner which can detect vehicles carrying illegal items like drug and weapons.
The Dy CM disclosed that discussion is on to place the two vehicles, one at Pallel and the other at Tengnoupal.
The devices which can easily identity the types of objects brought by vehicles would be parked at two different points along the road.
The first vehicle installed with x-ray scanner device will check vehicles heading towards Moreh while the other will look after vehicles moving out of Moreh.
Once the vehicles are put in service, there will be no need to detain vehicles plying along the road for long, he explained.
Asserting that use of the devices would enhance vehicular movement along the congested Imphal-Moreh road, Gaikhangam assured that the complaint filed regarding long detention at AR post at Tengnoupal would be put up during the Joint Security Meeting of the State Cabinet.
Referring to the bomb blast at Lilong on January 29 in which six persons including two AR personnel sustained injuries, the Dy CM termed the attack as 'unfortunate' which should be avoided.
Effective security measures are being taken up to thwart any unwanted incident in different parts of the State.
The rate of bomb blast in public places in and around the capital has been reduced which is due to public outcry against such attacks, he added.
Gaikhangam also assured that further investigation will be carried out into the shootout at Kadangban under Lamsang Police Station on January 29 in which two persons were killed.
