Curfew imposed, mobile data suspended

In view of the restive situation in various parts of the state, district administrations have imposed total public curfew under sub section 2 of 144 CrPC 1973, thereby restricting the movement of any person outside their residences with immediate effect.
In separate notitications, district magistrates Th Kiran kumar (Imphal West), Lou rembam Bikram (Bishnupur), Somorjit Salam (Kakching) and Ranjan Yumnam (Tengnoupal) informed that the curfew has been imposed as precautionary measures as there is likelihood of causing serious breach to peace, disturbance to public tranquillity and grave danger to human lives and properties on account of unlawful activities of some anti-social elements.
Assembly of five or more persons, which is likely to turn unlawful and carrying of slicks, stones, firearms without valid license, weapons or objects of any descript ion, which cun be used us offensive weapons have been strictly prohibited in the four districts.
However, in case of emer gencies and lor persons who want to take out procession for marriage, funeral, etc., ap plications should be made to the respective superintendents of police for permission, the district magistrates informed.
The restriction shall not be applied to the government agencies involved in the enforcement of law and order and other essential services, the district magistrates informed.
Meanwhile, the government has suspended mobile data services in the state for the next five days with immediate effect to prevent any disturbances to peace and public order.
In an order issued on Wednesday, commissioner (Home) H Gyan Prakash explained the decision was taken after report from DGP Manipur that during the rally and total shutdown called by All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (AT-SUM) on Wednesday there were reports on incidents like fighting amongst vol-unteers/youths of different communities and situation is tense and volatile in the districts of Bishnupur and Churachandpur.
Moreover, some anti-social elements are using the social media extensively for transmission of images, hate speech and hate video messages inciting the passions of the public.
The social media has also become a handy tool for rumour mongers and is being used to incite general public which might have serious repercussions on law and order situation in the state, it added.
The order further directed all mobile service providers are to ensure compliance with the order.
