Imphal, April 26 2017:
Postidentity theorists too have been saying that the time for identity politics is over, and many of them believe in postnationalism and post modernism.
The crux of post-national-ism says that the time for nationalism is over and no country can exist in isolation.
Post-nationalism believes that it is time for multiculturalism where different communities co-exist together at equal footing.
They believe that it's time for globalization and post-modernism.
All countries are cosmopolitan and all individuals are cosmopolites.
Under such conditions, there is no need for protection of identity.
This is one understanding of post modernism, Oken remarked.
The concept of post-identity is based on utopian premises, not on the existing realities.
At present, there are strong movement for protection of identity.
The liberation movements seen today in Scotland, Quebec, Catalonia, Britanny, Padania etc are all driven by a common aspiration to protect identity.
Mass movements seen across Europe to prevent large scale influx is also inspired by a common desire to protect identity.
Likewise, the exit of the UK from the European Union was also influenced by the growing concern for protection of identity.
The liberation movement seen in Kashmir was fuelled by alleged subjugation of Kashmiri people's identity by India.
Likewise, liberation
movements seen across WESEA was ignited by suppression of indigenous people's identity by India.
"If subjugation of identity should be checked, one must build one's identity.
If the alien rule must be overthrown, the only viable option is through building a common identity of our people", continued the KYKL Chairman.
The Government of India has been blaming identity movement for the wars of liberation seen across WESEA and that AFSPA 'was imposed to suppress these armed revolutions.
But they never confess the grave wrongs done by them in the form of occupation of WESEA.
If their (Government) wrongs are removed, the liberation struggles would subside automatically, Oken asserted.
