Imphal, June 25 2015 :
State units of BJP and Naga People's Front (NPF) have forged a "Democratic Alliance of Tamenglong ADC" and have staked claims to form council in the district.
Informing the new development to reporters at Manipur unit NPF office, Dewlahland here, party president Awangbou Newmai added that formation of council in Chandel district after forming alliance with the BJP has also been agreed in principle between the two parties.
The NPF is a partner to the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre.
It has been decided that one of the elected members of NPF will be appointed as chairman of the newly formed BJP-NPF alliance and to give the post of vice president to an elected member of BJP, Awangbou informed.
He announced that one elected Congress and four Independent members from Chandel ADC have merged with NPF and that the party and BJP have agreed in principle to form council in the district, too.
Another four Independent members elected from Senapati ADC have also joined NPF, he further said, adding all documents related to all members who have joined the party have been duly submitted to the State Election Commission.
Meanwhile, Awangbou Newmai criticized the State Government for the 'inordinate delay' in conducting the oath-taking ceremony of the elected ADC members and council formation.
He informed that the NPF has urged the State Government in writing to expedite the process for council formation.
Awangbou protested against the Government for failing to issue notification till now and suspected secret agenda of the ruling Congress behind the delay in the formation of councils.
The Manipur NPF president rejected the claim by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam that law and order and threat against elected ADC members had been a hindrance to the oath-taking ceremony.
He demanded that the oath-taking ceremony should be held at the respective district headquarters.
Despite Chief Minister O Ibobi's suggestion for election of nominees before the oath-taking function, Awangbou claimed that such procedure is not mandatory.
He appealed to the Government to take steps so that all the elected members can take oath at an earliest.
