Bishnupur, October 03 2018:
Bishnupur district police arrested a 24 year old youth who tried to run away with a Scorpion SUV belonging to 28 Rajput Rifles, at Thingei village, under Bishnupur PS today.
According to a reliable source, the Mahindra Scorpion vehicle belonging to 28 Rajput Rifles under 26 Sector Pallel, was stolen from Thangal bazar today, at around 3 pm while the driver of the vehicle went inside a shop to buy a few things.
Immediately after the theft, the driver informed his senior officers and filed a report at City PS and soon the information was passed to all police stations.
Soon after getting information, a combined team of Bishnupur police and Bishnupur commando launched a frisking and checking operation along Tiddim road.
During the checking, a vehicle suspected to be the stolen Scorpio was seen coming from Imphal towards Bishnupur side and signalled to stop by the security personnel.
However, instead of stopping, the vehicle sped away towards Thinungei village.
Bishnupur commando gave chase and finally intercepted the vehicle.
The driver of the stolen vehicle was arrested on the spot and during verification the vehicle was confirmed to be the stolen Scorpio belonging to 28 Rajput Rifles.
The arrested driver has been identified as Nameirakpam Ranjit Singh (24) s/o (L) N Sanatomba Singh of Thinungei Awang Leikai.
He has been handed over to City PS for further necessary legal action, the source added.
