Imphal, September 22 2013:
All Manipur Bus Owners' Federation, which has launched cease work strike since yesterday in protest against seizure of six passenger buses plying along Imphal-Ukhrul road by Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) for not paying their monthly taxes, today made it clear that all passenger services along the route would remain suspended until an amicable solution is brought about.
Addressing media persons in this regard at its office at Keishampat here today, A Priyokumar, Secretary of the Federation, stated that the buses plying along Imphal-Ukhrul road have been rendering services to the people for quite a long time.
However, six buses of Ukhrul District Imphal Bus & Truck Owners Association were seized by TNL for not paying their monthly tax of Rs 12,000 on September 19 and have not been released till today.
As such, All Manipur Bus Owners' Federation decided to launch a cease work strike since yesterday following which the service of passenger buses along Imphal-Ukhrul road has come to a complete halt.
Priyokumar disclosed TNL collects a monthly tax of Rs 12,000 from Ukhrul District Imphal Bus & Truck Owners Association in the name of welfare of the passenger buses and the people.
However, TNL began to allow Winger services along the Imphal-Ukhrul Road without any permit and ignoring the services rendered by the buses along the road.
That was the reason why the Ukhrul District Imphal Bus & Truck Owners Association stopped paying taxes to TNL.
He went on to inform that the Association had assured the TNL that their due taxes would be paid off after the TNL election.
But notwithstanding the assurances, the TNL seized the six buses.
The action of the TNL is unacceptable and an amicable solution between the bus owners and the TNL should be brought about at the earliest, until which passengers services along Imphal-Ukhrul road would remain stopped.
