International Women's Day observed at Manipur Press Club

International Women's Day 2015 was celebrated under the theme "Empowering Women, Empowering Humanity, Picture it!" at Manipur Press Club here on Tuesday during which the participants commended the major role play by women in Manipur society.
Jointly organized by Meetei Leimarol Shinnai Shang and State Health Mission, Manipur, the function were attended by Nupi Samaj general secretary Thokchom Ramani Leima and LEIMAKOL president MC Rita as chief guest and president respectively, and All Manipur Tami-Chingmee Apunba Lup president Momon Leima and Thokchom Rajen as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramani Leima said there will be no end in portraying the valuable task performed by Manipur women in the society.
She drew a red line between uneducated women educated women in the State, saying the former surpass the later in carrying out task.
She said the present trend relating to clothing and lifestyle of Manipuri women has transformed considerably, which she said is not a good sign at all.
In the past, almost all women of Manipur were uneducated, but their valour and the immense role played by them in shaping the society are quite laudable indeed.
"They have become role model of today's women" .
LEIMAKOL president MC Rita said the Manipuri women have an inimitable place in the history of women in the world, apart from showing their quite distinctive way of religious life.
She mentioned that Manipuri women have been playing a great role in the society since many years.
But she cautioned that digression of the original path left by the vigorous women of the State will naturally weaken the strength of the present women generation.
Tami-Chingmee Apunba Lup president Momon Leima in her speech said that now Manipur society is witnessing bizarre incidents like torturing of women by the same sex.
She said, "Our sympathetic help is always demanded by village chiefs of the hills for they do not want their folks to be tormented by anyone.
They feel safe and happy when we meet them" .
Momon Leima said women should never neglect their responsibility in the society.
