Imphal, September 06 2018:
The Joint Students' Coordination Committee (JSCC), comprising of AMSU, MSF, KSA and SUK, has vehemently condemned the assault on AMSU functionaries and Manipuri singers by alleged NSCN (IM) cadres on September 3 at Nungba bazar, apart from conveying that JSCC regards the act as a direct assault on the committee itself (JSCC).
A press release issued by the convenor of JSCC today stated that the committee will not remain silent regarding the assault on members of one of its constituent bodies and alleged that the unfortunate incident is also shameful for the present State Government.
Demanding the Government to take stern action against those who are looting and assaulting the people, JSCC informed that it does not, even for a bit, accept the supposed clarification by NSCN (IM) that it has no relation with the culprits involved in the incident.
JSCC further demanded the Government to book the culprits at the earliest.
It also demanded those involved to apologise immediately.
On the other hand, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has warned the State Government that various agitations will be launched if the Government fails to arrest and punish the culprits involved in the assault.
A press release issued by the information and publicity secretary of AMSU today added that the association will launch various forms of protest unless the Government take up necessary steps to uproot all traces of NSCN (IM) from Manipur's soil.
Conveyed that it is high time for all the communities residing in the State to unite and force the NSCN (IM) out of Manipur, it mentioned that the assault on the student functionaries as well as artistes of the State at Nungba bazar on September 3 by alleged NSCN (IM) cadres, is an insult to the people of Manipur as well as the student community.
It mentioned that even though AMSU put forward a deadline of 72 hours before the State Government to nab and punish the culprits, no positive results have been seen yet.
On the other hand, AMSU claimed that the supposed clarification made by NSCN (IM) that they have arrested the culprit involved in the incident, is just a lie to hoodwink the people.
Questioning how the NSCN (IM) was able to arrest the culprits from Nungba when even the State security forces failed to nab till date, AMSU demanded the State Government to award befitting punishment to the culprits involved at the earliest.
AMSU added that the supposed swift arrest of the culprits by NSCN (IM) is proof that the outfit is freely operating on Manipur's soil.
If so then, it is time for Chief Minister N Biren Singh to keep his promise to the people regarding uprooting NSCN (IM) base camps from Manipur, it added.
Pointing out that assault on AMSU is similar to an assault on the people of Manipur, it added that the association cannot help but believe that NSCN (IM) is collaborating with the Indian Army to torture, harass and extort money from the innocent people even though the cease fire is not applicable in Manipur.
If the Central Government cannot put a rein over the NSCN (IM), then there is no need for the peace talk to continue and the cease fire monitoring cell should investigate the issue at the earliest, AMSU stated.
Demanding the State Government to take up necessary actions to uproot the outfit completely from Manipur.
AMSU appealed to the people of the State to offer unconditional support to the agitation launched by the association in this regard.
It also urged all the volunteers and members of the association in various districts, both the hills and the valley, to remain alert as well.
