Imphal, August 03 2021:
Normal life was badly affected in the hill areas, especially in Tamenglong, Noney, Senapati and Chandel districts due to the 12-hour total shutdown called by UNC in all Naga-inhabited areas of Manipur to demonstrate strong support to the Framework Agreement and in protest against the failure of its materialisation even after waiting for six long years.
All types of vehicles were off the roads including NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) and Tamenglong - Khongshang road while traffic was negligible along Imphal-Mao sector of NH-2 as well as in all the Naga-dominated areas of the state.
In Chandel and Senapati districts, the 12-hour total shutdown called by UNC was strictly enforced by district level Naga organisations.
However, there is no report of shutdown-related incidents from across the state.
Meanwhile, the NSCN-IM has conveyed gratitude to all in Naga inhabited areas for extending support to the shutdown call and showing their solidarity to the Framework Agreement (FA) signed between the outfit and the central government on August 3, 2015 .
A statement issued by the outfit's ministry of publicity said the shutdown was called to show their anguish and disappointment over the inordinate delay in finalisation of the FA till date.
However, it said the shutdown call was met with success with the support from all over Naga areas including the Naga areas of Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.
The statement also said they are equally grateful to shop owners and business establishments for exhibiting the courage to show solidarity to the Naga people and public for bearing with the inconveniences.
In Manipur, the shutdown was endorsed and enforced by United Naga Council (UNC) and different tribe bodies in all Naga inhabited areas of the state especially in Senapati, Ukhrul and Tamenglong districts, it noted.
