Hmar Students condemns military operation

Imphal, February 18 2013 : Hmar Students' Association (HSA), Manipur Region has come out strongly against the recent military operation allegedly carried out by the town commander of 46 Assam Rifles, Churachandpur against the leaders of the Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) - HPC(D) .

In a statement, Joint Secretary of HAS Emmanuel L Pulamte asserted that the military operation not only violates the terms and conditions of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) to which the HPC(D) is a signatory; but also disturbs the peaceful environment that has been nurtured with great difficulty.

The Government of Manipur as well as the higher authorities of the Assam Rifles should seriously check and monitor the unnecessary high-handedness of the Major who is merely pursuing his vested personal whims and interest.Such rash and immature act of an army officer in pursuit of vain adventurism should not be allowed to be repeated as it jeopardises the hard-earned peace process, he said, while demanding the town commander of the 46 Assam Rifles (Churachandpur) be booked for his severe misconduct and violations.
