Ukhrul, December 30 2012:
A day after the UNLF claimed to have killed the two Kongkan hunters mistaking them for Assam Rifles, survivor and eyewitness to the killing has refused to accept contention even as United Naga Council (UNC) has termed it as a 'blatant lie' .
In press communiqu issued to local media on Saturday, UNLF claimed that the two villagers from Kongkan were killed mistaking them for Assam Rifles personnel and sought pardon from Tangkhul community.
But the claim of the UNLF that the deceased were "mistaken" had been strongly denounced by lone survivor, the bereaved family members and UNC.
Survivor and eyewitness Ruikanmi Chithung contended that there could never be a mistaken case as K.Ramshang was wearing a jean pant and a yellow shirt while K.Kumar had a yellow shirt on.
The same arguments have been given by the family members of the two deceased.
"Have anyone ever seen Assam Rifles troops moving on duty in fanciful colour dresses.
That was totally unbelievable," said an aggrieved family member.
Ruikanmi also stated that the two were gunned down in second attempt from a close range.
"They (UNLF cadres) were not blind I believe.
The road is frequented by civilians.
Why do they have to fire us for second time?" he lamented.
In the public condolence service, the UNC had termed the UNLF's claim of mistaken case as total lie.
It argued that the attack was made intentionally and vehemently decried the action.
