Imphal, August 29 2018:
Concerned with the "non-inclusion" of hill districts tribal employees in regularisation and absorption of direct contract employees of various categories of NREGA in the department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has urged the department concerned to "rectify" and include the hill districts tribal employees as per "reservation rules" of the State.
The Government had, in an order dated December 31, 2016, had regularised 191 employees who were serving on contract basis.
But, the hill districts employees, mostly STs were left out from the regularisation process even though they are serving under the same department on contract basis, alleged a statement of the ATSUM issued by its general secretary Seiboi Haokip today.
The scheme (NREGA) was launched during the UPA Government in 2006 incorporating 100 districts of India as a pilot project to uplift rural areas.
However, the order which regularised the contract basis employees in 2016 is in direct negation of the spirit and objective of the scheme/programme, alleged ATSUM.
"The present Government in sync with its slogan Go To Hill should take up necessary immediate action so that the order is quashed and make it more inclusive," urged ATSUM and cautioned that failure to meet their appeal may "attract unnecessary repercussion" .
