One month long Saksham-2018 campaign flagged off

Imphal, January 16 2018:
With the objective to intensify efforts for making spreading awareness about the conservation and effective utilization of petroleum products, a one month long campaign 'Saksham-2018' was inaugurated today at Imperial Hall, Classic Grande, under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
The programme was jointly organised by Public Sector Oil and Gas Companies in the State with Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) .
On the occasion, Governor Dr Najma Heptulla, Principal Secretary Textile, Commerce and Industries, Manipur, P Vaiphei, IAS and Commissioner CAF & PD, Manipur K Radhakumar, IAS graced the event as the chief guest and guests of honour respectively.
State Level Coordinator, Manipur, SI Singh was also present at the event.
Speaking at the event, the Governor said that conservation of petroleum products by using another means is need of the hour.
The use may be for transport or everyday use of household sector.
Apart from damages to the environment, these petroleum products which are imported from foreign countries have direct impacts on nation's economy.
The people have the responsibility to contribute their share towards saving the environment and to save the petroleum products.
Raj Bhavan has already started using solar panel for domestic power generation and steps will be taken to increase the volume of such solar panel in future too, she.
As part of the programme, the Governor administered Saksham-2018 pledge, flagged off the 'Walk Rally' which was participated by students from different schools of the State, read out the message from Petroleum and Natural Gas, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, prizes were given away to the four best participants of the Quiz Competition District Level, and sit and draw painting competition for school students were held as well.
The message from the Union Minister mentioned that India has emerged as the third largest oil consumer in the world.
Being one of the fastest growing economies of the world, the demand for energy, especially oil and gas is also rising rapidly.
It is also a fact that the people are heavily dependent on crude import to meet their energy needs.
This heavy import dependence and its attendant strain on the economic resources need greater emphasis on to conservation of petroleum products.
More importantly, conservation of petroleum products is aimed to address the concerns of climate change and to protect the environment for a healthy living condition for the coming generations as well as to facilitate sustainable development.
The valedictory of the campaign will be on February 15 .
