Imphal, August 03 2021:
Expressing strong opposition to the trend of party hopping that is being witnessed in the state, CPI Manipur State Council secretary L Sotinkumar said that the BJP roping in Congress MLAs, who they had been branding as corrupt, testifies that the saffron party has been patronising political turncoats.
Addressing a press meet at Irawat Bhawan here on Tuesday, Sotinkumar said that BJP has been criticising the 15 years of Congress rule in the state at every possible platform but the party is still trying to woo Congress MLAs to come into their fold so as to remain in power.
BJP is planning to 'buy' more MLAs from the Congress party a pre-emptive step in case their MLAs are disqualified.
The recent defection of MPCC president Govindas Konthoujam is the outcome of the political system influenced by corporates.
Taking in opposition MLAs near election time is a strategy BJP adopts to gain power.
It is time the public understand that defection is against the Constitution of India and teach the party hoppers the right lessons.
On the other hand, there is a strong need to amend the electoral system to do away with such trends.
Public need to understand the real motive of these power-hungry politicians and /stand up against the current system, which creates room to make the politicians corrupt, and to bring about a transparent electoral system.
He further said that the BJP government took around one year to remove former MU vice-chancellor AP Pandey and as a result, Manipur University failed to figure in the list of top 100 Universities of the country.
Farmers are staring at a possible drought and recruitment drive just ahead of election is example of corrupt government.
The only achievements of the BJP government are seen in the homes of the ministers, he said.
CPI national executive member Dr M Nara said that the party strongly disapproves the morality of Govindas Konthoujam and the reason behind his resignation and defection to BJP.
The party did not expect such immature act from a matured lawmaker like Govindas and his action would lead to losing the trust that public had on him.
All the defections in the state are influenced by election gain.
A group of politicians will come out with the claim that they have completed their election campaign amid the Covid 19 pandemic, he opined and stressed the need for amending the electoral system of the country in order to bring about better governance.
