Ukhrul, October 26 2015:
The collective inhabitants of villages in Chamu area of Ukhrul district have expressed deep concern and disappointment over the manner in which the inter village road from Humlang (now Sahamphung) to Chamu village Part II was constructed under Package No.987 of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) .
"The high objectives of the Centre Government to provide road connectivity to rural areas through PMGSY is laudable, but the faulty alignment and poor construction of the road has literally botched up the very objective," said Ningkham Zimik, secretary PMGSY Committee, Chamu Area in a communication with Hueiyen Lanpao Monday evening.

Elaborating the points, he said that though the said road has been extended till the remotest part of Ukhrul district, the road has failed to serve the hapless inhabitants of the area since it was constructed at 30-50 degree-gradients resulting in steep surface of the said road.
"As such, the road has remained inaccessible and poor people of the area continue to be deprived of proper road connectivity," Zimik said while lamenting that the concerned authorities has so far done nothing to alleviate their hardships even after the residents had approached the concerned MLAs of Ukhrul 44 and Phungyar 43, RD Minister, Chief Engineer (MSRRDA), contractors and other engineers for taking proper alignment of the road in the interest of the villagers.
Maintaining that the villagers are still grappling with daily issues of unavailability of basic needs of life for want of connectivity, Zimik pointed out that even 1 kg of common salt costs a whooping Rs.60 in the area and is still considered reasonable because of the transportation difficulties.
"If PMGSY is truly meant for the benefit of the villagers, the concerned authorities should look into the matter without delay," he pleaded adding that in the absence of this the people would take recourse to strong forms of agitation.
"There shall be no more wasting of government schemes for the needy and we are now ready to approach the higher authority for intervention in the matter," he threatened.
