Imphal, October 01 2014:
Taking strong exception to the statements made by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who is also the president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) that the acceptance of Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP)'s nominee in the scrutiny for the Hiyanglam By-election to be held on October 17 was due to communication gap between the party and ECI, president of MSCP Adin Pamei has threatened to file a legal suit against the Deputy CM.
Addressing a press meet in this regard, Adin Pamei said that all necessary steps being taken up for holding the election is executed by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manipur following instructions of ECI.
The MSCP President termed the unwarranted statements of the Deputy CM as an attempt to create confusion amongst the electorates of the constituency assembly.
Legal suit will be filed against the MPCC president to demand the amount of expenses incurred by the candidate in the election, if the party's nominee is defeated by chance, he stated.
Saying that the acceptance of the nomination paper of the party' candidate, Th Laiba was given by the Returning Officer of the election considering credentials of MSCP, Adin Pamei informed media persons that a written complaint to be enclosed by newspaper cuttings of the statements of the Deputy CM will be filed to ECI to initiate appropriate action against him.
Asserting that the joining of the five MLAs of MSCP in Indian National Congress does not mean that the party itself has merged with INC, he pointed out that the fate of the five MLAs now lies in the hands of the Dy.
CM.
The approval given by the RO to the candidature of the party's nominee for contesting in the ensuing By-election is a clear reminder that MSCP is still an active political party of the State, he added.
He went on to say a legislature making irresponsible statements over a non-issue was unfortunate for the whole society.
PG Pouthaogai, president of MSCP Tamenglong District was also present during the press meet.
