State observes National Unity Day

As part of the nationwide observation, Manipur Government on Saturday observed the National Unity Day at 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Ground.
Attending the function as Chief Guest, Chief Minister O Ibobi said that the day has been observed nationwide in India celebrating the birth anniversary of former Home Minister of India Sardar Vallabhai Patel who took major role in the formation of Indian State by merging more than 500 Princely States.
The Chief Minister further said that Sardar Vallabhai Patel, who also took main role for India's development was a leader of Indian National Congress (INC).
He became the first Home Minister of India after the country's independence and contributed a lot by becoming a Deputy Prime Minister.
His contributions in rehabilitating the refugees from Pakistan side cannot be forgotten.
Sardar Patel also gave his best effort to bring peace and development in India.

Sardar Patel tried to form an Indian State by merging all the British Colonial Provinces, who were handed over by the British to India under Indian Independence Act, 1947, and 565 other princely States.
Recognizing his contributions, Sardar Patel was honoured as Iron Man of India and people till today remembers him as Patron of Indian Civil Servant, said O Ibobi.
Sardar Patel was highly honoured with the highest civilian awards in India, Bharat Ratna in 1991 recognising his limitless contributions, said the Chief Minister and called on the people to remember the Iron Man of India and follow his path to bring unity in the country.
The function was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, MLAs, Ministers, Chief Secretary O Nabakishore and Officers of Manipur Police Department.
A book "History of Manipur Police" written by Manipur Police DIG (Range II), Dr Soibam Ibomcha was also released during the occasion by CM, Deputy CM and Chief Secretary.
Meanwhile, the National Unity Day was also observed at Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Government Group Centre Auditorium, Langjing and paid floral tributes to 26 Manipuris who had worked at the paramilitary force and sacrificed their lives.
A book "Book of Martyrs" released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday was also released in the function.
