Imphal, January 14 2013:
Reacting to the recent incident of seven youths who were lured with promises of job recruitment escaping from an Assam Rifles post at Chandel after realizing that they have been detained to take part in a 'surrender drama', and the subsequent backtracking of another 5 youths from falling into similar trap, the proscribed KYKL has contended that the policy of Indian Government is to make the community totally dependent on it.
In a press communiqu signed by A Yaiphaba, its Secretary Publicity and Research, KYKL pointed out that there are lakhs of unemployed youths in the State.
From 1949 to 1970, there were very few people who were willing to get recruited in Manipur Rifles.
But after 63 years of subjugation under Indian dominion, there are lakhs of people who are willing to bribe the concerned authorities to get recruited in AR, MR and IRB.
The economic policy imposed by India Government on the State of Manipur is nothing but to deprive the production capability of the people, the statement said.
It maintained that during the last 63 years, the economic condition of Manipur has declined drastically and the economic base of the State has shrunken.
Under such a condition, it is obvious that the people of the State would be bribing to get recruitment even for some insignificant posts like Riflemen in AR.
Surrender of unemployed individuals who have no connection with any UG group at all just to get hold of a job, is natural and there is going to be many more such 'surrender drama' in future.
KYKL further maintained that the people of Western South East Asia and those living along the Himalayan ranges are bold, courageous and are equipped to stay well in hilly terrains and those living in other parts of India are timid, afraid of war and cannot survive in rough and hilly terrains.
As such, to guard the boundary of the Indian Union, Indian Army requires such courageous people for deployment along LOC in Kashmir, Siachen, Ladakh, Sikkim, Chumbi valley border and Arunachal Pradesh. These people are used by Indian government as mercenaries.
Another reason for the extreme desire of recruiting people from Manipur is the mounting public pressure for removal of AFSPA.
India Army feels that this is the best way to quieten the voice of the people, it alleged.
"Under such situations, there will be many 'surrender dramas' and the like which may be even more harmful to the society.
We need to uproot this system and merely agitating in the form of strikes will not help.
We need to develop the economy of the state and since the 'dumb' State Government will not be any use in this connection, it is upto the people to come together and build a productive force.
We cannot just depend on the favour of others and think of becoming rich and developed", the statement exhorted.
