Imphal, September 07 2018:
On its 4th Foundation Day today, Indigenous People's Association of Kangleipak (IPAK) has honoured 34 mothers who had given birth to many children.
They were honoured encouraging the indigenous people of the State to increase the dwindling population.
Speaking at the foundation day event held at Lamyanba Shanglen Palace Compound as chief guest, president of NEROCA FC Thangjam Arunkumar Singh expressed concern over the decreasing indigenous people's population.
He emphasised the need to increase the birth rate among the indigenous people and called on the people to be cautious about the influx of illegal migrants in the State.
The influx of illegal migrants, after the NRC issue in Assam, needs to be monitored and prevented to save indigenous population, he said and lamented that the population of non-indigenous people exceeds the indigenous people at present.
He lauded the JCILPS and IPAK for their efforts in curbing influx of illegal migrants in the State and promoting growth of indigenous people of the State.
According to IPAK, the State has a total population of 28.5 lakh with only 8.5 lakh indigenous people.
"The birth rate in Manipur is 1.5 % only.
India Government's family planning policy does not suit the State," said Prem Pebam secretary general IPAK and called on the people to do away with the family planning policy to save indigenous people.
