Ukhrul collegians tour remote villages of Kamjong

The Department of English St Joseph College, Ukhrul conducted a three-day educational tour to Mapum, Zingsui, Chamu and Kachouphung villages to study the local culture and their traditional customs .
The students interacted with village elders and listened to the myths, folklore and folktales for better understanding of the history of the villages and their people.
Villagers of Mapum narrated the ancient tales on the origin of Pasi "Tangkhul headgear" and the process that involved rituals while making it.
Zingsui villagers enlightened the students on the traditional way of fixing dates for celebration of "Luira phanit" (Seed sowing festival) by them.
The students also visited a place called Kazei Keirak (Stairway to the abode of the dead), Tilily waterfalls and Kachouphung lake.
Altogether 23 students including college faculty took part in the three days educational tour that began from April 29 and ended on May 1, 2023 .
