Locals storm Mayang Imphal Police Station

Imphal, July 31 2011: Reacting against the arrest of an active worker of prospective MLA candidate Kongkham Manglem by police, local people stormed the Mayang Imphal PS.

Mayang Imphal Keithel was also shut down, and Mayai Lambi was blocked.

The arrested worker, Sagolsem Bode (45) of Mayang Imphal Konchak Mamang Leikai used to be the Private Secretary of Mayang Imphal A/C MLA, Dr Kh Ratankumar until he resigned from the job about 45 days ago.

After that he became an active worker of Kongkham Manglem.

Bode was arrested by Mayang Imphal Police following a report he stole a desktop PC of Dr Kh Ratankumar.

However, Bode told police in his report that he bought the PC at ' 8000 from Ratankumar's younger brother Hutter.

Lcals stormed Mayang Imphal PS demanding the unconditional release of Bode.

Ch Noyon, Secretary Senior Citizens' Forum Mayang Imphal charged that MLA, Dr Ratankumar had instigated the police to arrest other workers of Manglem in the past.

Locals later cleared the road around 1 pm after SDPO Mayang Imphal shifted Bode at the office of SP Imphal.
