Jiribam, June 06, 2014:
All Jiribam Working Journalists' Union (AJWJU) with its Media partner Manipur Chronicle would be organising a one day seminar on June 8 at the Guest House of Jiribam PWD on the topic 'Jiribam: its development and prospects- Perspective Vision of a District'.
The seminar is going to dwell on the various development prospects in Jiribam and the demand for a full fledged revenue district of Jiribam, which has been sidelined by the government for a long time, a report said.
Situated at the far-off western edge of Manipur, Jiribam sub-division lying around 222 km from the state capital has been inhabited harmoniously by various communities and groups protecting the natural boundary of Manipur.
In the course of time, neighbouring Jirighat in Assam has witnessed changes in development perspective.
People of Jiribam do marketing in Jirighat, since shops in Jiribam close just after sunset while those in Jirighat open upto 9/10 pm, the reports highlighted the plight of people particularly businessmen in Jiribam area.
It cited that although the law and order situation has almost improved in Jiribam, people of the area still have the fear psychosis.
Frequent bandhs and blockades, monetary demands with pressures served to shop-owners by the UGs, social organisations and government sponsored uniform agents are factors for shifting of shops to Jirighat by the shop-owners.
Jirighat has become a bigger business centre than Jiribam.
The situation would not happen, if the state government had taken up infrastructural developments and implemented policy programmes in time, it further said.
With the intention of garnering political advantage, the politicians of Manipur have not materialised the demand for a full-fledged revenue district of Jiribam.
On one or the other reasons, the government has been sidelining the district demand of the people of Jiribam, thereby decelerating the development process of the area, it said.
