Veterinary Dept observes World Rabies Day

Imphal, September 28 2026: The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Manipur observed World Rabies Day 2026 under the global theme "Stronger Together" at Farmers' Training Hall, Veterinary Complex, Sanjenthong.

Dr Rangitabali Waikhom, Secretary (Veterinary & AH), Government of Manipur graced the function as chief guest.

Dr L Arunkumar Singh, Director (Veterinary & AH) presided over the programme.

Dr Laishram Gojen Singh, Joint Director (Planning) and Dr RK Rosie, State Surveillance Officer, IDSP, Health Services attended as guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Rangitabali Waikhom said rabies prevention cannot be achieved by the Veterinary or Health sector alone and stressed collective action among veterinary services, health authorities, local bodies and communities.

She highlighted the One Health approach, dog vaccination, responsible pet ownership, prevention of bites, public awareness and timely post-exposure treatment to achieve a rabies-free Manipur by 2030 .

L Arunkumar Singh said the department provides antirabies vaccine free of cost throughout the year at all veterinary hospitals and dispensaries and that rabies is 100% preventable with timely vaccination.

A technical session on rabies in humans and animals and its prevention was also held.

Awareness programmes and anti-rabies vaccination camps were organised across districts and at State Veterinary Hospital, Sanjenthong.
