CM assures introduction of bill on curbing inflow of migrants

Manipur government will introduce a bill related with checking and curbing the inflow of migrants into the state during the forthcoming Manipur Assembly session most likely to be held from February 25 .
The decision of the government to introduce the bill was announced by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh during a meeting with representatives of political parties held at his office chamber on Saturday.
The Chief Minister convened the meeting of the all political parties to discuss the bill which was prepared by the Government based on the recommendation made by All-Political Party Committee on Inner Line Permit (ILP) headed by the Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam constituted by the Government in the wake of series of protests demanding implementation of ILP in the State.
The committee had on December 10 last submitted a 280-page report titled "Report on Inner Line Permit System" to the Chief Minister.
The committee prepared the report on ILP based on opinions and comments given by eminent experts and scholars.
While accepting the report, the Chief Minister assured that the report would be handed over to State Law Department for necessary examination and formulation of a bill in consultation with the constitutional experts.
Ibobi also appealed the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) spearheading the stir for the introduction of ILP, to extend support and cooperation to the Government so that the bill will have a smooth sail at the earliest possible time.
Ibobi leaves for Delhi.
Chief Minister O Ibobi on Saturday left for Delhi after attending a meeting of the all political parties.
He would be attending a meeting of the newly formed NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) at the national capital, said sources.
The meeting held at the Chief Minister's secretariat lasted more than two hours.
After the meeting, state BJP spokesperson RK Shivachandra who attended the meeting told media that he hoped people's demand would be fulfilled.
He further said both the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister have assured the all party committee that the bill related to curbing migrants will be passed during the forthcoming Assembly Session.
