IBSD Director bats for development without compromising natural resources

Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Takyelpat, Imphal organized a brainstorming session on Natural Resource Management and Rural Bio-entrepreneurship in North East at its Dr Manju Sharma Hall today.
The function was attended by Manipur Legislative Speaker Y Khemchand Singh and National Academy of Agricultural Sciences Secretary Dr Anil K Singh dignitaries.
IBSD Director Professor Dinabandhu Sahoo pointed out that the adverse impacts of exploiting natural resources have been increasing in the NE region with the occurrence of natural calamities like recurring flood annually.
He added that there are huge disparity between the rural and urban areas in terms of economic development and other aspects, in the NE region although there is rich bio-diversity and abundant natural resources.
It is necessary to find a solution that will bring development without compromising the natural resources, he observed and added that combining rural bio-entrepreneurship and natural resource management will go a long way towards finding the solution.
Khemchand assured to extend all possible support in the efforts of the IBSD and environmentalists to preserve the State's natural resources and that he can inform and convince the Ministers whenever IBSD and environmental scientists need any help from the Govt in preserving the environment, although he has no executive power in the Govt affairs.
Dr Anil K Singh observed that natural resource management in NE region is very poor while noting that many forms of environmental degradation takes place in a large scale.
He underscored the importance of infusing the concept of bio-entrepreneurship to rural masses saying that natural resource management is needed to ensure survival of the human race.
