Tamenglong, June 06, 2014:
Zeliangrong Baudi (ZB) Manipur has strongly opposed the move made by United Tribal Liberation Front (UTLA) to create a new assembly constituency by carving out areas from Nungba sub-division and Tousem sub division of Tamenglong district.
In an emergency meeting held at ZB Office Glory Lane here today, the Baudi viewed the statement made by United Tribal Liberation front (UTLA) Chairman SK Thadou in media very seriously and decided to oppose any attempt to disturb the existing demographic structure of Tamenglong district tooth and nail.
Issuing a joint statement after the meeting, Thomas Kamei, President and Poudin Riamei General Secretary of ZB Manipur stated that the emergency meeting resolved to take up serious counter movement against move made by UTLA chairman S.K.Thadou, which is under the purview of Suspension of Operation (SoO) for creation of a new Assembly Constituency by curving out areas from Nungba sub-division and Tousem sub division.
"As of now any movement that will affect the demographic structure of the present arrangement should not be touched for various reasons within the Tamenglong district.
At the same time Tamenglong Jiri Border tussle is on and yet to be settled once and for all.
If the outcome of the border dispute talk is against the interest of the Tamenglong district and the Zeliangrong people, the dispute would continue to drag longer than expected.
Let the status-quo of the present arrangement be maintained in the context of assembly constituency arrangement", the statement added.
"It was unanimously decided against the mind-set of some vested interest groups for Gerry meandering according to their whim and fancy without the consent of the concerned people and the stake holders," ZB-M statement said, while cautioning the UTLA faction to refrain from making unnecessary demand and provocation to test the sentiment of the people.
