Now pension scheme for old labourers

The State Labour Department has implemented a pension scheme for labourers above 60 years under the Social Security Act.
A labourer who is 60 years old or above can now avail the benefits of the pension scheme which provides a monthly pension of ' 200, said Rural Labour Inspector Chandrakumar today while attending a One day Workers' Training Programme at Irom Meijrao.
The training programme was organised by Imphal West 2 CD Block Wangoi Unorganised Workers' Union under the sponsorship of the Labour Department to create awareness on the abolition of Child and Bonded Labour and Labour Welfare Scheme.
Speaking as resource person in the programme, Chandrakumar said that the Labour Department is taking up various welfare schemes for the labourers in the state.
He said that more than 27,000 labourers in Imphal East under the purview of BPL have been provided smart cards which insure benefits of ' 30,000 per year in case of hospitalized treatment under the National Health Insurance Scheme.
The scheme has also been implemented in all districts of the state according to a recent cabinet decision.
Under the scheme, five family members of a smart card holder can avail the facility of health insurance in a year.
Langol View Charitable Clinic, JN Hospitals, Public Hospitals Hatta, Raj Polyclinic and Shija Hospitals have been empaneled under the scheme.
Apart from this scheme, there are schemes which provide accident insurance of ' 75,000 and ' 1.5 lakh in case of accidental death to a BPL labourer.
Under the scheme, a labourer needs to pay an annual premium of ' 80 to the ICICI Lombard and or LIC to avail the benefits of the insurance.
Moreover there are educational assistance benefits for children of BPL labourers.
According to the wage board notification, the minimum daily wages of an unskilled labour is ' 122.Any labour who does not get the minimum wages can appeal the Labour Department to get the minimum wages.
Also a labour needs to get registered through the concerned DCs to avail the various schemes of the department for the welfare of the labours.
