4 GR personnel wounded in attack

Imphal, March 22 2015:
At least 4 personnel including one Junior Commissioned Officer of 2/5 Gurkha Rifle sustained injuries when they were attacked by suspected militants at Khoupum at around 8.15 am yesterday.
The 2/5 GR troops were on area domination patrolling exercise when an IED targeting them was triggered followed by a volley of fire from sophisticated weapons when they were about to reach L Khunou under Khoupum police station, Tamenglong district.
All four of them are presently undergoing treatment at Leimakhong Military hospital.
One is said to be in critical condition.
Soon after the ambush, the Junior Commissioned officer and the three other wounded personnel were airlifted in a military helicopter to Red Shield Division's Leimakhong military hospital.
The injured personnel of 2/5 Gurkha Rifles have been identified as JCO (No.618074P) Subedar Chitra Bahadur Chhantyal, Rifleman (No 5457464Y) Aan Singh, Rifleman (No 545781K) Gir Bahadur Thapa and Rifleman (No 57546F) Mingma Dorjey.
Doijey received splinter injuries on his chest and is stated to be in a serious condition.
Subedar Chitra Bahadur Chhantyal received splinter injuries on the right leg, Aan Singh received splinter injuries on the right leg, Gir Bahadur Thapa was wounded on his legs while Mingma Dorjey received splinter injuries on his chest and he is stated to be in a serious condition.
Meanwhile, the militant outfit NSCN-K has claimed responsibility for the attack.
On the other hand, suspected underground militants placed a hand grenade at the residential gate of Thoubal Zilla Parishad member Khundrakpam Ashalata yesterday early morning.
The bomb was safely retrieved by police and later disposed off at a nearby paddy field.
The incident happened yesterday morning at around 6 when the locals and family members of Khundrakpam Ashalata 44 w/o Kh Rajen of Khangabok under Thoubal police station who is also a member of Thoubal Zilla Parishad came across the bomb placed at her residential gate.
Then they immediately informed the police about the discovery.
Soon after, a team of Thoubal police arrived at the spot.
�The police team picked up the bomb and later defused it at a nearby paddy field at around 8 am Thoubal police have taken up a case regarding the incident.
