Imphal, November 30 2011:
Coming out strongly against the killing rickshaw driver Md Kora s/o late Md Ibobi of Irong Umang when a bomb fitted on his rickshaw was triggered near the main gate of Manipur Sangai Festival venue at Hafta Kangjeibung today, All Manipur Rickshaw Drivers and Pullers' Welfare Association (AMRDPWA) has questioned why a poor rickshaw driver was used as a weapon, is it because those who have taken up the arms have no guts to fight openly? .
In a statement, President of AMRDPWA Th Basanta Singh pointed out that this is not the first time in which the lives of rickshaw drivers have been put at risk.
Is killing of rickshaw driver and causing injuries to other civilian the goal of taking up arms?, Basanta asked, and demanded the group responsible to come out with a public apology at once.
Otherwise, the Association would consider the group responsible for the blast as anti-people, he added.
Alleging security lapses on the part of the festival organizer, Basanta further questioned the rationale behind the installation of CCTVs inside the festival venue instead of at the main gate.
Appealing to the government and its related agencies not to subject rickshaw drivers to needless harassment following today's incident, the Association has also shared in the grief of the bereaved family and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured.
Furthermore, the Association urged the government for giving necessary compensation to the victim's families.
