Imphal, October 15 2012:
Even as Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Chief Minister O Ibobi has talked at New Delhi about resolving the vexed Naga issue, neither the Government of Manipur nor the Chief Minister has given any commitment.
A highly placed source informed that even though the Union Home Minister took up the agenda of resolving Naga during the meeting, the Chief Minister gave no word.
With the State Government already taken a firm stand not to compromise the territorial integrity of Manipur under any circumstances, the Chief Minister, as a representative of the people of Manipur, could not give any word to the Union Home Minister as he was not informed on what premises and points the Naga issue should be resolved.
It is the wish of both the people of Manipur and the Government to bring a lasting solution to the Naga issue.
But in the name of resolving Naga issue, the Chief Minister could not give any commitment to what is not clear and understandable.
The Chief Minister is also opposed to the idea of raking up new issues in the process resolving another issue.
Being a Chief Minister does not mean he can act on his own whim without considering wishes and aspirations of the people.
Being a leader, he must sense the pulse of the mass and act accordingly, said the source.
On the other hand, Chief Minister O Ibobi called on Gurbachan Jagat at the Raj Bhavan this afternoon.
However, what transpired during the meeting could not be ascertained.
