Imphal, November 14 2011:
With reference to the Government of India's proposal to form a Supra State body to look after the affairs of Naga people in the North Eastern region, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has stated that he has no idea about the Centre's proposal.
He also questioned with what authority the Supra State body would function across States.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the birth anniversary function of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at Congress Bhavan here this morning.
Noting that the issue is a very sensitive one and it concerns not only Manipur but also Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, Ibobi stated that the Centre would certainly consult the concerned State Governments before going ahead with the proposed Supra State body.
As of now, the Centre has not made any intimation to the State Government.
Stating that Manipur's unity and integrity cannot be compromised, the Chief Minister reiterated that the Government has a standing resolution to safeguard the boundary of Manipur.
Earlier, Congress workers led by Chief Minister O Ibobi and MPPC president Gaikhangam paid floral tributes to the photograph of Jawaharlal Nehru.
