CRPF personnel who have laid down their lives for the country were fondly remembered at Rashtriya Ekta Diwas observation held at CRPF Group Centre, Langjing today.
The function was organised as part of a Nation-wide observation held across the country.
CRPF IGP (Nagaland, Manipur sector) Nirmal Raj received salutes from six march past contingents including a contingent each of lady personnel and students of KVS Langjing at the function.
After wreaths were laid at the martyrs memorial, families of martyrs were felicitated at the main function held at the auditorium of CRPF Group Centre, Langjing.
IGP Nirmal Raj, DIGP Vikram Sahgal, DIG Imphal Range Sunit Rai and 109 Battalion Commandant Pra-mod Mehta released a souvenir at the function.
In his speech, IGP Nirmal Raj said that the supreme sacrifices of CRPF personnel would always be remembered by every personnel and citizens of the country as these martyrs had given an inspiration to live and die for the motherland.
He also urged the family members of the martyrs to take CRPF as their family and approach the paramilitary force whenever they need help.
The function was also attended by high ranking officers, Jawans, family members of martyrs, students and teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya Langjing.
In his welcome address, DIGP Vikram Sahgal said that Rashitriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) has been observed all over the country on the birth anniversary of the first Home Minister of India, Dr Sadar Vallabh Bhai Patel.
He also said that the observation was a heart touching, sad and solemn occasion for the CRPF personnel and their families.
The brave personnel, who were martyred to safeguard the country, are remembered on the day, he said.
Vikram Sahgal also said that CRPF is one of the largest para military forces of the country.
It was established by the Central Government to help the States in maintaining law and order, he said.
Vikram Sahgal further said that normalcy has been restored with the help of CRPF in Tripura and Mizoram.
Saying that CRPF would assist them in any matter, Vikram Sahgal urged the families of the martyrs to inform them whenever they need any kind of help or assistance.
He said that CRPF has been providing family accommodation, children's education, assistance in joining CRPF and family pension etc.
Since the establishment of CRPF, 2014 personnel including 34 Manipuris have laid down their lives for the country out of which 333 were in Manipur.
Of the 34 slain Manipuri personnel, seven were killed in Manipur and 27 in other States, he said.
