Protection for memorial tomb of Phunal Maring chief mooted

With the State Government failing to protect and preserve the memorial tomb of chief of Phunal Maring village as a heritage site, villagers of seven different villages including Meeteis have formed a Committee to preserve and protect the memorial site.
Accompanied by mediapersons, a team of Phunal Ningthou Telheiba Thougal Lup and villagers of Phunal Maring visited the memorial site of the King of Phunal.
During the course of the visit, the team came across ancient sites where Phunal King had once ruled.
Apart from this, the team also came across the Bamboo grove from where people in ancient times used to get the material for making arrows.
Interacting with mediapersons on the sidelines of the visit, Dr K Sushila, Deputy Director of Manipur State Archives, informed that State Archives has been involving in preservation of old records in the most accurate manner.
She said that the memorial site of Phunal Maring king should be preserved as a heritage site and it could be a big tourist attraction point.
