According to a statement issued by Y Shyam Khuman, general secretary, FoH, the social activist who hails from Sangang village was returning home from Churachandpur DC Office when he was detained near Turing Phaisen Kom village by armed individuals suspected to be Kuki miscreants.
As Asong fled for his life by jumping into a deep ravine, the miscreants allegedly fired several rounds at him but missed their mark.
The social activist reportedly sustained injuries in his attempt to escape as he rolled down the gully.
He took refuge at a nearby village and was finally rescued by the police and Army around 6:30 pm.
At this juncture, FoH pointed out that a Kuki militant group had reportedly assaulted Manipur Kom Union president Serto Ahao Kom in August last year.
In addition, some Kuki miscreants have allegedly been causing impediments in the activities taken up by the Chief of Ichum Kom, said FoH.
Stating that the Kom community is an indigenous group of Manipur with their own "Yek Salai", FoH strongly condemned the, violent acts perpetrated by suspected Kuki miscreants on people of the Kom community.
FoH also urged the State Government to take appropriate legal action against those who allegedly made an attempt on the social activist's life.
