Imphal, June 07 2015 :
United NGOs Mission-Manipur (UNM-M) on Sunday has expressed its sincere and deepest condolences to the bereaved families and near and dear ones of those who lost their lives on May 23, 2015 at B Gamnom village under Saikhul Block, Manipur and Multuk village in Chandel district on 4 June 2015 .
"How long have we to remain as victims of violence, insurgents and security forces? Who will answer this question? May 23, 2015 at B.Gamnom village three members of an insurgent group and secretary of a church were gunned down by security forces.
The wife of the church secretary has prematurely become a widow leaving her with the children to battle for survival", UNM-M said in a statement.
On June 4, a combined team of insurgent groups ambushed a convoy of 6 Dogra Regiment, killing 18 soldiers and injuring several others.
Some of the deceased were recently married.
The young wives have been made widows.
Such kind of difficult situations have been experienced by the people in the North East including Manipur for the last 50 years.
"UNMM fears that the security forces may commit crime, torture, sexual assaults on women, etc during operation.
Till date our local media are not allowed by the Indian Army to enter the area.
We humbly request Indian Army to allow the media to visit the area at the earliest.
Please also allow visiting the area by the civil administration authorities to provide health care, food, etc, if there is any need or casualty," it said.
It said that at this juncture, both the Union and the State Governments must not respond by following the dictum, 'violence for violence, guns for guns', suppression of democratic rights and curtailment of fundamental rights of the people.
It also said in this context, it would be greatly appreciated if the national media (both print and electronic) would delegate their staff to spend time in Manipur both in the hill and valley areas to experience life under AFSPA as ordinary citizens.
"UNMM humbly again appeals to all the concerned including the Prime Minister, insurgent leaders and Dalbir Singh Suhag, Chief of the Indian Army to prepare for political peace negotiations with honesty and sincere efforts with the participation of civil Societies, NGOs and intellectuals in a transparent manner for a long lasting peace solution.
"People in the North East have lost faith in the role played by GOI on peace negotiation.
The ceasefire process between GOI and NSCN (IM) is far from encouraging.
The consequence of such a negligence had led to the attack on the 6 Dogra Regiment on 4 June 4 by NSCN (K) and its allies.
It urged to allow the civil administration authorities to visit villages specially Juthang, Libung, Paraolond, Charlong and Ktal Khumthak to provide immediate humanitarian service to the military and civilian population who are in need of medicine, food, etc.
UNM-M also urged for allowing mediaboth print and electronicto visit the operational areas for reporting the human right situation there and involvement of women security forces in the operation.
