Many continue to protest NSCN (IM) in Nungba incident

Many organisations continue to condemn the Nungba incident in which All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) alleged that its members and some artists including Manipuri singers and members of HA YUM band were harassed and assaulted by the suspected NSCN-IM cadres on September 3 .
Social Advancement Youth Organisation (SAYO), Tekcham Sports and Cultural Organisation, Social Library Youth Organisation, Social Development Athletic Union, Khongjom Circle Veteran Organisation and Tekcham Meira Paibi staged sit-in at Tekcham Apunba Lup Sanabung, Tekcham Mayai Leikai today condemning the alleged assault on students and artists.
The alleged incident, according to AMSU, happened at Nungba Keithel when they stopped for dinner after returning from a programme organised by All Assam Manipuri Students' Union at Silchar on Sep 3 at around 7.40 pm.
AMSU had claimed that four persons who allegedly identified themselves as cadres of NSCN (IM) assaulted AMSU general secretary Soibam Anil and looted cash from AMSU volunteers and the artists.
The sit-in at Tekcham largely participated by womenfolk denounced the NSCN-IM of the alleged incident and demanded the State Government and authorities concerned to nab the four culprits involved at the earliest.
The organisations, at the sit-in, warned Government that they will take up stringent agitations if the culprits are not caught and punished at the earliest and claimed that the alleged incident has undermined the plight of student community and the artists of the State.
The sit-in assured AMSU, all possible help and support in its future course of actions regarding the matter.
Meanwhile, Khundrakpam Kendra Youths Organisation (KHUKYO) has also condemned the NSCN-IM and alleged that the organisation (NSCN-IM) has turned into a "gang" after it had signed cease fire agreement with the Government of India.
It condemned the "high handedness" of the NSCN- IM when dealing with students and innocent civilians.
It may be mentioned that an FIR was lodged at Nungba PS in connection with the incident.
